As locals, we enjoy the magic of the Alhambra every day. We’re happy to share not only the best available official tickets but also insider tips to help you make the most of your visit to this breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Important: due to the high demand and the daily limit of visitors we highly recommend to book your tickets in advance.
Our essential tips when visiting the Alhambra
1. Include the Nasrid Palaces in your visit
The Nasrid Palaces are the absolute highlight of the Alhambra, showcasing the most stunning examples of Islamic architecture. Inside, you’ll find breathtaking sights like the famous Court of the Lions, the magnificent wooden ceiling in the hall where sultans received their visitors, and the highly photogenic Palacio de Comares.
The fact that the Nasrid Palaces are a must-see is not just our opinion, research shows that the majority of visitors agree they wouldn’t want to miss this main part of the Alhambra during their visit. That’s why we highly recommend booking a ticket that includes access to the Nasrid Palaces.
2. Plan you visit in the morning or late afternoon
Due to the hot weather – especially during July and August – in Granada, it is wise to plan your visit to the Alhambra in the morning or late afternoon. This also has the advantage of being less crowded. If you plan to visit at midday, there is plenty of shade, especially inside the Nasrid Palaces, but make sure to bring enough water, sunscreen, and a cap.
An afternoon visit is also special because of the lighting. During the golden hour (which depends on the season but is around 7 p.m. in summer), the combination of intricate architectural details and stunning views creates unique photo opportunities. There are also night tours available. For more information, check out our tips on the best times to visit the Alhambra.
3. Join a guided tour or purchase the audio guide
Since there are no informational signs in the Alhambra, joining a guided tour greatly enhances your visit, providing insights into the Alhambra and the Nasrid Palaces that you might otherwise miss. Our favorite is the guided tour by Anna and her team, which has a 4.8 rating from over 1,100 people.
Looking for information but want to explore at your own pace? The available audio tour is perfect for you! The official audio tour lasts around three hours, but you can pause or stop whenever you like. It’s available in five languages: English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish.

The Nasrid Palaces are the heart of the Alhambra complex. They consist of a series of exquisitely designed rooms, courtyards, and halls that showcase intricate stucco work, colorful tiles, delicate arches, and serene water features. The most famous rooms within the Nasrid Palaces are the Court of the Lions, the Hall of the Two Sisters, the Mexuar, and the Palace of the Lions. Everyone always appreciates the Nasrid Palaces the most. That’s why we always recommend to book the ticket with access to the Nasrid Palaces.
Alcazaba
The Alcazaba is the oldest part of the Alhambra and serves as its military fortress. You can explore its towers, walls, and battlements while enjoying panoramic views of the city and surrounding landscape.

The Generalife is a beautiful garden complex adjacent to the Nasrid Palaces. It features lush gardens, fountains, patios, and a summer palace. The Generalife offers a tranquil escape with stunning views of the Alhambra complex and the city of Granada.

This stunning courtyard is surrounded by galleries and features a rectangular pool, reflecting the arches and columns that border it. It’s a serene and beautiful space within the Nasrid Palaces.
Court of the Lions
Perhaps the most iconic feature of the Alhambra, this courtyard features a central fountain supported by twelve marble lions. The intricate detailing and harmonious architecture make it a must-see.

When and what time to visit the Alhambra?
First of all it is good to mention that the Alhambra is big complex, and there’s a lot to see. Therefore allocate sufficient time for each section and the entire visit: expect your visit to last at least 3 hours.
Here you can find our recommendations when to visit the Alhambra:
Morning visit
Opting for a morning visit can have several advantages. The temperature is usually cooler, making it more comfortable for exploring the outdoor areas. Additionally, the morning tend to be less crowded, allowing for a more serene experience. Especially the first opening hours between 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. are perfect for a more quiet visit.
Afternoon visit
We recommend the afternoon for the most special lighting. During the golden hour (depends on the season but in the summer around 19 p.m.) capturing the intricate details of the architecture combined with the beautiful views leads to the most special pictures.
Peak season & shoulder seasons
July and August are absolutely the peak months for the Alhambra. In the surrounded months, like June and September you will notice a significant decrease of visitors. Also July and August tend to be very hot months in Granada and Andalusia, therefore we recommend you to visit the Alhambra if possible in the shoulder season outside these two peak months.
Our favorite season to visit the Alhambra
April and May are our favorite months to visit the Alhambra. The weather is pleasant and the surroundings are green. But it’s absolutely worth visiting the Alhambra year round. Even in the winter: there will be less crowds and most likely you will be able to spot snow on the surrounding mountains. Wouldn’t that be special?
